Hello from St. Petersburg, Russia! Can I just saw wow
incredible what we saw today! I am not
sure I can do the day justice on the blog! First we were up and in the dining room at 6 am! Now remember we lost an hour so now we are up and eating when you are just settling down for the night! That being said after breakfast and coffee we were off to the Follies Lounge to await our turn being called to head off the ship to our tour bus. Daria is our wonderful tour guide and Nikolai is our bus driver.
Very interesting is the long line of buses and time it takes
them to come into port because for them to enter a port they have to show their
passports to enter the port area! After
going through immigrations/customs we were on our way to the bus. Our guide was very knowledgeable and shares
some fun stuff with us!
We started our drive through the city and saw submarines and
many other sites. Our first stop was
outside at St. Isaacs for outside pictures.
St. Isaacs was commissioned to be built by Peter the Great and took 40
years to be built.
Then we were on our way to the Canal Tour. How fun to ride a boat up and down a canal
looking at the scenery!
After the canal we went to the Church of the Spilled Blood and
had our first church tour. This church
was built over the site of where Czar Alexander the II was assassinated. This is a beautiful Russian Orthodox Church.
It was filled inside and out with ornate works of art.
We headed to St. Isaacs for our tour inside there.
Then we headed to lunch at what use to be part of the Winter Palace. We were seated at tables that were set with fine china, people dressed in uniforms served us, and we had an elegant Russian lunch.
After lunch we headed out to see a few other sites and then
headed to the “Peter and Paul Fortress”.
This is the site of where St. Petersburg was started. The first set of buildings that were built in
St. Petersburg. We toured the church where the majority of Russia’s Czar’s and Czarina’s are buried
inside the church.
Michael and Grace
found a friend…..
We were allowed some time to shop and then headed back to
the ship and had a wonderful dinner and looking so forward to day 2 in Russia
tomorrow. Although breakfast is at 5:30
am so we can be through the immigrations and on bus by 7 am.
They didn't come snatch the camera! ;)
My pic of the Russian Fire House

Stay tuned for day 2 in Russia!
