Rome Day #2

We had an early start today with breakfast starting at 6:30 annd the bus leaving at 7:15! We were still tired!!! But we all managed to make it out to the bus early!

First stop was the Vatican Museum ! I learned that the Vatican  is it’s own county with its own passports, police department and government!! Who knew..Not Me!

The museum had so many tapestries and it was so crowded it was hard to photograph!

One of the tapestries that I was able to get a picture of in the museum!

This was the view of St. Peter’s Basilica’s Dome from  the museum!

After the museum we went to the last Sistine Chapel. We weren’t able to take pictures inside but here are some we took of the boards when our guide Francesco showed us before entering to explain what all we would be seeing! It was a “super Mama Mia” when we first walked in and saw the beautiful works of Michelangelo!!

We left the Sistine Chapel and headed to St Peter’s! Below is a picture of a Swiss Guard standing guard over the Vatican.

St. Peter’s Square where the Pope arrives in his Pope Mobile to address the crowds.

Below is a picture of the Pope’s residence however he chooses to live in a cottage on the grounds because he feels the residence is too large he likes more modest living accommodations.

In the afternoon we did a walking tour for lunch and to see the Spanish Steps, The Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

Shopping Mall below that dates back 1850!

The Trevi Fountain was being cleaned so no coin tossing but it was truly beautiful even without the water!

Then we were off to see The Colosseum!

Our local guide in Rome, Francesco!
