Florence Day #4

Hello from Florence.  We had a wonderful day that started off with a visit to the Accademia Gallery of Florence to see the famous statue of David by Michelangelo.  Michelangelo was a truly gifted artist.  The David and other sculptures were so very detailed it was mesmerizing to me. I will share a few of his unfinished works and the David below with you.

After the visit there we headed off on a walking tour of Florence seeing the different piazza's and squares and we saw the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto.  No I didn't climb those 400+ steps to get a view over the city.  I know I am weak but it was way up there. 😌  We also saw The Baptistery of St. John and the doors they call the Gates of Paradise. We finished up our walking tour in the Piazza Santa Croce.

Then we had a gold and leather making tour.  Very interesting to hear them detail their works.  Someone may have a new wedding band in our family and guess what it is NOT me. 😀

We found a lovely restaurant for lunch and I had the most wonderful salad for myself.  Pictures of course are below.

We shopped a little more and some had Gelatos and coffee then we just sat on the benches in the square until time to leave for the hotel.

We had a group dinner tonight and tomorrow we are off to Pisa then onward to Venice Island.
