We had a wonderful night at Spearfish Canyon. We all thought it was our favorite stop....but then again we say that after every place we stay the night. But we could have stayed there 2 nights for sure.
We boarded the motor coach after breakfast...which truly was the best breakfast so far I think.
We headed towards Wyoming! This was a long day for us on the bus but they break it up so nicely you can't help but enjoy it. First stop was a Flying J Truck stop for a rest break and get a drink. Then off to UCross Ranch for lunch. This is a dude ranch that is owned by the Blair family.
(The Ranch at Ucross in Buffalo/Sheridan is the crown jewel in the Blair Hotels collection. From the beautiful accommodations, friendly staff, gentle horses, breathtaking scenery, and massive fish to the extraordinary corporate event facilities, it’s easy to see why families and groups won’t stay anywhere else. )
We had a wonderful lunch of soup and sandwiches and there were 6 week old puppies that we all thought were so cute. Michael and Tommy did a little fishing. A few people from our tour group did some horseback riding. Susan and I did some walking...got to keep my steps going while on this trip if nothing else because of all the great food we are eating. Oh OK and the ice cream we manage to fit it.
After a 2 hour visit to the ranch we were off to the Big Horn Mountains -(The Bighorn Mountains are a mountain range in northern Wyoming and southern Montana in the United States, forming a northwest-trending spur from the Rocky Mountains extending approximately 200 miles northward on the Great Plains.)
After a while we stopped at a lodge and had a rest break and some of "Big" Mike's Pie! See why I need to walk a lot each day. ;)
The Big Horn mountains were stunning. But we didn't see any moose so that was a disappointment for us.
See those cut outs coming down the mountain? In the winter those are ski slopes in
The Big Horn Mts.
Below is a Butte!
Which is an isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top (similar to but narrower than a mesa).
After the Big Horn Mountains we headed into Cody, WY. We were on our own for dinner so some of us headed out to find a place to eat and due to wait times we ended up walking a good bit and were able to get a table at Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel - http://www.irmahotel.com/
This bar was a gift from Queen Victoria
Cowboy got in my picture...I think he was trying to get in it if you want to know the truth! :)
I have so many pictures I would like to share with you all but technology is failing me big time. :(
We have only really begun this trip. We still have this whole week to adventure the wild west.
Tomorrow we are off to Yellowstone National Park. Now be warned we are told cell service will become even more remote and so will wifi coverage so if you don't hear much or at all from us don't worry we are fine and you will know when we are back in service again.
