Fun Fact - The Port of Leixoes is one of Portugal’s major seaports, located north at the mouth of the Douro River, in Matosinhos municipality, near the city of Porto.
No sunrise photos this morning. Lots of clouds/fog this morning. We docked in Leixoes and we have an excursion ~Porto Sights and a Douro River cruise this afternoon.
We headed out for our tour about 12 noon and we’re greeted by some fun friends leaving the cruise terminal. 🤩
Monumento Tragédia no Mar
As we drove away towards the beach from the ship port, you see these statues, of family members wanting their family members back from the sea.
King Dom Pedro IV also known as the Liberator
Torres dos Clerigos
Since its construction in 1763 to the late 19th-century Clérigos Tower was the tallest building in Portugal, and even today it is the highest structure in the historic centre of Porto. 75 m high
Olive trees
Mark was catching candid pictures along the way. I may have been fussing. But the next pick was worse and he better have deleted that one for sure. 😂
A few pictures below of the city as we drove through.
These trees our guide referred to them as “pregnant” trees. They have a fungus around the middle that makes them look pregnant!?! You tell me what you think.
See the pretty blue tile.
The building below is actually two different churches.
the Carmo and Carmelitas churches
Located in downtown Porto, the Carmo and Carmelitas churcheslook like the biggest church in the city. In fact, they are two churches separated by one of the world's narrowest houses. This house was built to make all contact between the nuns and the monks impossible.
The house is right in the middle very small thin building. Not a great picture on here.
Porto presently has 6 bridges across the river Duro I think we got pictures of 3 and I hope I named them correctly. Plus I may be out of order from our day. 😬
