A very early morning for us today. We had to be in the lounge ready to go at 6:45 am for our tour. This meant we had to eat breakfast very early too.
Very foggy morning so no sunrise pics again. We did catch some cool pit of the moon. π
Someone took a nap while waiting for the tour to leave ship. π΄π΄ But I think we all wanted to sleep too.
Our tour is to Santiago de Compostela which will include Tapas Lunch!
Santiago de Compostela[a] or Compostela is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia, in northwestern Spain. The city has its origin in the shrine of Saint James the Great, now the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, as the destination of the Way of St. James, a leading Catholic pilgrimage route since the 9th century.[3]In 1985, the city's Old Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ~Wikipedia
We were to visit the Cathedral Basilica de Santiago Compestela. However we found out as we were traveling there that we actually were probably not going to be able to go into the Cathedral. Today was the ordination of the new Archbishop and the church was closed. Below is some info from Wikipedia for you although I have no pictures of the inside to share. π
The Santiago de Compostela Archcathedral Basilica (Spanish and Galician: Catedral Basilica de Santiago de Compostela) is part of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostelaand is an integral component of the Santiago de Compostela World Heritage Site in Galicia, Spain. The cathedral is the reputed burial place of Saint James the Great, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. It is also among the remaining churches in the world built over the tomb of an apostle, the other ones being St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, St Thomas Cathedral Basilica, Chennai in India and Basilica of St. John in Izmir, Turkey.
St. James the Greater was the first Apostle to be martyred for his faith. He willingly dropped everything at the seashore to follow Jesus as his first Apostle. He knew that Jesus was the Son of God, and knowingly walked with Jesus.
Since we weren’t able to go in we walked around the outside of the church and square.

Chocolate croissant
We had a snack Michael made sure he had something more substantial
Off to meet our group for the Tapas

Waiting for our Tapas lunch we spied a bride and groom.
During our lunch which was really about what we got at the winery yesterday and we fortunately found a table to sit so we didn’t have to stand. π Glad we had that snack earlier. π we were entertained by the Tuna Singers!! I had to look this up see below!
In Spanish the word “tuna” refers to a group of students, all dressed up in traditional costume who sing their serenades to lovely, modern day maidens just as others have done in centuries past.

Dinner tonight
Since we weren’t able to go in we walked around the outside of the church and square.
I think I was walking too slow? ππ€£
We walked a lot so we rested when we could.
Coby was very good to the pigeons and shared his snack.
We went off for a while to shop and then had a little rest in a hotel coffee shop.

We left the square and headed to the coast to see the Tower of Hercules.’
Below is the Tower of Hercules that is believed to be the oldest Lighthouse in existence. Built by the Romans in the late 1st century. It was still foggy on the coast as you can see and this was at 3:15 pm
Coby ran up and got a good shot of the lighthouse for us.

This sculpture below was created by RamΓ³n Conde and titled Caronte in reference to Charon, the ferryman who carried dead souls across the rivers Acheron and Styx in Hades. The sculpture depicts a naked and morbidly obese man sitting with his arms crossed at his chest. ( Hey we saw it so we share it!)!
