Paris Day 1

Bonjour!

We made it!  We left on time from Dulles last night and arrived on time this morning about 11 am in Paris.  Not a whole lot of sleeping happened on the plane and for some there was no sleeping. :(  We got to our hotel around 1:15 pm and after a quick talk from or Viking guide here at hotel we registered for our rooms which wouldn't be ready till after 2 pm.  So off for a short walk with the guide and then we were on our own for lunch.  We ate a wonderful Brasseries (these are restaurants that serve food throughout the day because other restaurants only open for lunch from noon to 2pm).

After lunch we came back to hotel and got into our rooms and got ready to meet and start our adventure for the day!  We met up with Mark's sister Pat and her husband Larry and off we went to the Arc de triomphe.

Some of us had planned to use the elevator to the top however the next thing we knew were were climbing a spiral stair case! Turns out we walked up 286 steps.  I guess you all can guess I took several rest stops along the way.  Once to the top caught our breath and the views were spectacular.
 Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre
We will visit there tomorrow!

Avenue des Champs-Élysées
 Eiffel Tower

David tried his best to get a good picture of us all!

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I

Then we walked back down those 286 step and head to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées
Below are some of the sights we saw.

Grace on the bling staircase at Swarovsk

It was decided by the men that we were walking further away from the hotel so they put their heads together....and I do mean heads together as you see below.....to get us on the right track back to the hotel before dark!

We decided to find a Paris French Patisseries shop.  Some got something good to take back to hotel for a little snack! Below is a picture of what we have been passing by during our walking today.  Thus the calling to find one on the way back for a taste.

We are all very tired but we are glad we hung in there and did the things we had planned for today! Even the 286 stairs up and down!!
