Regensburg ~ 11/30/18

We visited Regensburg Germany.  It was the coldest day we have had yet.  We encounter rain and freezing rain.  We did a historical walking tour of Regensburg and we visited one of their Christmas Markets then some hot chocolate to get us warmed up and back to the ship after a stop at the famous sausage hut.

We are off to brave the cold.  This was the coldest day yet I do believe.

The Historic Sausage Kitchen of Regensburg is a restaurant in Regensburg, Germany. This is notable as perhaps the oldest continuously open public restaurant in the world. In 1135 AD a building was erected as the construction office for the Regensburg stone bridge.Wikiped

The Stone Bridge in Regensburg, Germany, is a 12th-century bridge across the Danube linking the Old Town with Stadtamhof. For more than 800 years, until the 1930s, it was the city's only bridge across the river. It is a masterwork of medieval construction and an emblem of the city.Wikipedia

Of course we found a wedding!  They were letting off their balloons.

There was a long story about that deer being placed there but it was so cold it is still frozen in my brain. But Michael is helping me share this with you.  The emperor had gone hunting he had wounded the deer.  The deer had run off and into a house with an open door.  The owner of the house young daughter locked the emperor out of the house to protect the deer.  The emperor became very angry and threatened all kinds of evil punishments if they didn't open the door so he could have his deer.  The little girl refused and her crying and pleading finally moved the emperor to let the deer go.  The father who owned this mansion at the time placed this deer statue as a thank you to the emperor's mercy.

Mark found Michael some lessons for his dream of owning a ukulele.

"A Stumbling Block" these were placed after the war in front of the homes or locations of homes of the Jewish people who did not survive the Holocaust.  They called them a stumbling block because the person who came up with the idea wanted you to see the stone so that society would not stumble into that type of evil behavior again.

This was the location of the home of the Schindler that were depicted in the movie Schindler's List.
