We had to depart the Viking Alta in Linz, Austria and were taken by bus to Passau. We were again fortunate to have no rain in Passau. Although the town itself is so surrounded with buildings and the streets are very narrow and the sun really doesn't seem to get into the city center. But again no rain so it was a great day.
We encountered snow on the higher elevations from Linz to Passau.
Passau is known as the "City of Three Rivers"! The Rivers Inn, Danube and the llz all come together. Lots of medieval history and beautiful architecture.
We visited St Stephan's Cathedral which is at the highest point of the Old Town. It is home to the larges cathedral organ in the world with 17,974 organ pipes, 233 stops and four carillons. All five parts of the organ can be played from the main keyboard, one at a time or all together, offering the visitor an unforgettable acoustical delight. Unfortunately we were not delighted with any of the organ music as they stop concerts at the end of October and restart in April.
We were there while they were getting the Advent Wreath ready to place.
Christmas Markets
Susan standing in for the tour guide while our guide made call to another guide to coordinate our visit to the Gingerbread demonstration and tasting.
St Paul's Church much simpler in style due to a fire that destroyed much of the city.
Cafe Simon's Gingerbread demonstration and tasting. The family has owned it and have been making gingerbread for 4 generations.
We had lunch in Passau since we hadn't met up with our ship yet.
Yep Michael got a new hat. Is anyone surprised? He got one with ear flaps this time. :)
Look a Dollar Store in Passau....yep we went inside and I had to buy something just to say I did it!
A stop for hot chocolate before it was time to catch our bus to the ship.
Heading to the bus. Such a cute and fun little place to visit.
We have arrived to the Viking Jarl in Straubing Germany, our 3rd Viking Cruise Ship. However Viking has done a wonderful job keeping us informed and making the journey enjoyable for us.
